What’s New at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows for 2019-20 Winter

Another ski season is upon us and there’s plenty more to look forward to this season than just powder turns and spring skiing at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows. The 2019-20 season marks the 70th anniversary of Squaw Valley, which first opened in 1949. There are several improvements and exciting new programs at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, so we decided to list out our top 4 that we’re especially looking forward to.

1) New Highspeed Lift at Alpine Meadows

This season there will be an easier way to access the “backside” of Alpine Meadows. Now you’ll be able to access the wide open bowls and picturesque views of Lake Tahoe off the Sherwood Chairlift in just 5 minutes from the base area of Alpine Meadows. An all-new $10 million detachable chairlift called Treeline Cirque will get you there. Not only that, there will also be a mid-station for quick access to some of Alpine’s best low-intermediate terrain. If you haven’t yet experienced this unique zone at Alpine Meadows, you absolutely should this season. The views from this zone are arguably some of the best at the resort.

2) Restored Tram Car Bar

An original 70’s Squaw Valley tram cabin has been renovated and converted into a full service bar that will live on the Olympic House deck. The Tram Car Bar is a tribute to Squaw Valley’s iconic history and will don the original logos! This is definitely a unique apres ski spot you won’t want to miss this winter!

3) New Mexican Restaurant in The Village at Squaw Valley

It’s been awhile since the Village has seen a new restaurant come into town. This season, the owners of the Auld Dubliner in the Village will open a brand new Mexican restaurant and tequila bar. The team is still working out the details, but the restaurant is slated to open in December. One thing we do know is the patio will definitely be the spot to hang out on a sunny day.

4) Tours to Explore Squaw Valley’s Unexplored Terrain

Alpenglow Expeditions has always been the guide service to contact if you’re looking to up your adventure level. This season, they’ll now offer even more opportunities to explore Squaw Valley with snowshoe tours and single run backcountry tours using the chairlifts at Squaw Valley accessing the coveted Tram Ridge Zone just beyond Broken Arrow.
